Top Cat Films, under the auspices of Corporate Outcomes (www.corporateoutcomes.com) has created a ground-breaking investment instrument to fund the development of its future slate of projects. The investment offers the advantages of a borrowing with full recoupment of capital with a premium, plus a share of profits from the next six films to be produced by Top Cat Films, utilizing those development funds. The instrument is unique in Australia in that it offers investors the opportunity to invest in film but to spread the risk/reward over a slate of 6 films. Details can be found on www.assob.com.au/tcf. To access, you will need to register. This takes less than a minute and they will not harass you with junk emails if you do. The investment offering is regulated by the Australian Small Scale Offferings Board (www.assob.com.au) and will be open for a limited time only. Two of the 10 units of Round 1 have been taken. A further 10 units in Round 2 may subsequently be made available. Top Cat Films is a highly motivated, commercially savvy production company whose mission is to be a studio without walls… creating a prolific slate of films with appeal for world audiences, providing a healthy if not enviable return to investors. This is rare in Australia because few production companies endeavour to raise private capital. Government funding comes very easily but it comes with strings attached which make profitability almost impossible. Screen Australia’s mission statement, to support the production of “great films for Australian audiences” is a self-defeating policy. It is our view that even Australians do not like Australian films (less than 2% of the nationwide box office is spent on Australian films), so if our own audiences do not support our films, why should we expect foreign audiences to do so? Top Cat Films is world citizen in the film industry and the films we make are intended for world audiences. We are unabashedly profit-driven. We want to make hit films that will be enjoyed by world audiences. And this is what separates us from other film companies in Australia. Top Cat is a relatively new production company. Robert Galinsky and Elizabeth Howatt-Jackman decided to collaborate only in 2006. During that time a remarkable number of milestones have been achieved.
